The Board of Trustees of the Frankfort Public Library District in Frankfort, Illinois, is seeking a progressive and collaborative leader to serve as Library Director. This opportunity is open due to the retirement of the previous Director. The library provides services to nearly 30,500 people primarily residing in the Village of Frankfort and Frankfort Square.
Frankfort is located about 37 miles southwest of Chicago's "Loop," in a region known as Chicago Southland. This area is home to diverse communities that offer a mix of urban/suburban/rural landscapes with vibrant shopping districts, vast open spaces and forest preserves, excellent transportation options, and strong community spirit.
About the Opportunity
The successful candidate is someone who excels in seeing the big picture — an individual who will be aware of the needs of the FPLD service population but who also will be willing to take the next steps to ensure that the library continues to lean forward with the latest in library services and resources.
The Director will be an advocate for the library and enthusiastically participate in community events and organizations. As a consensus builder, the Director will understand that the Board of Trustees, library staff, and community members all have roles in making their library both relevant and irreplaceable.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Exceptional leadership, administrative, financial, and planning skills
- Creative and confident leader with an approachable, honest, and collaborative style
- Political savvy with well-developed skills at building and strengthening relations with the community and its leaders
- An ability to adapt to change, foster teamwork, and demonstrate the best standards of customer service
- Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited school
Salary $82,000 to $95,000/year, negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits.The library participates in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
